One of the oldest settlements in the state of Missouri, Florissant was settled about the same time as the city of Saint Louis, with our first civil government formed in 1786.  Spanish archives in Havana, Cuba state there were 40 people in Florissant at the time of the 1787 census!  Our “village” at the time was called “Fleurissant,” or “Blooming” in English, by its French settlers and “St. Ferdinand” by its Spanish rulers.
